Serial Entrepreneur Expands Business Operations

Mark Peddy in front of Quotations

Mark Peddy, described by this Newsletter more than two years ago as a “serial entrepreneur,” has continued to live up to his reputation by further expanding his business operations in both Brevard and regionally.

In late 2009, he purchased Quotations Coffee Cafι on East Main Street.  Since that time he has acquired three additional United Parcel Stores to complement his UPS facility in Brevard. Two are located in Hendersonville and one in Asheville.

“We are proud to have created 30 additional jobs in Brevard in the last three years, despite the economic downturn,” Peddy says. “Furthermore, most of those hired are young people, including five college graduates – three from Brevard College.  They are beginning to build business careers right here in Brevard, giving them additional incentives to remain here.” complete article

Business Development Plan Competition Underway

County residents thinking about starting or expanding a business in Transylvania County have an opportunity to enter a business development plan competition this summer that will offer a $10,000 cash prize for the winning business plan and its successful implementation.

This will be the third year for the competition sponsored by the Transylvania Partnership, a local non-profit organization that helps new and existing businesses create jobs and increase business investment. The objective of the contest is to encourage, recognize and reward current and prospective business owners who are Transylvania County residents and who choose to start or expand a business in the community.

This year there will be a single prize of $10,000. Up to 25% of this amount will be awarded immediately for the winning business plan; the balance will be awarded later for successful implementation of the plan.

The business plan competition application and rules are available online at Business Plan Competition. For more information contact Mark Burrows at 884-3205.
