CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS BUILD BUSINESS

Mike and Kim Young

Mike Young, owner and operator of the Falls Landing restaurant in Brevard, has a somewhat non-traditional perspective about what it takes to run a successful food service operation.

“It is not enough just to serve quality food and provide excellent service – we go a step further and build special relationships with our customers. The result is repeat business, and that’s what leads to success in the restaurant business,” Mike says.

Mike’s career in food service began from working in a restaurant while a college student in Ohio. Wanderlust then took him to the Caribbean, where he worked his way up through the ranks to general manager of a restaurant chain in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. The next step came at the ripe age of 28, when he bought his own restaurant – Shipwreck Landing – on St. John Island.

In 1993, Mike decided to explore opportunities back in the US and sold the St. John restaurant. Through a chain of contacts, he was attracted by the culture and lifestyle in Western North Carolina, and he ended up buying a vacant building that formerly housed the Shamrock restaurant in downtown Brevard.  After extensive renovation, it became The Falls Landing Eatery at 18 East Main Street.  complete article
