COURTHOUSE SURVEY FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC

A study, commissioned by the county, identified a shortage of space throughout its departments, especially in the court facilities.  Increased security problems have resulted in the establishment of a secured single port of entry for everyone using the courthouse.  The proposed plan is to renovate the Administration Building and the historic courthouse.  This, for the short-term, will address judicial space needs, leave all court functions in the courthouse and move administration into the old library and the Register of Deeds, Tax Administrator and staff into the current Sheriff’s Office.  Because of concerns expressed by the public, the commissioners are studying the option of a long-term solution of building a court facility out of downtown and have requested that a process be developed.

This survey is part of that process and its purpose is to determine the impact of moving court functions.  The courthouse is the visual center of downtown and the significant and historic building around which everything else there has evolved.  It is important that you give this survey your serious consideration.  Your answers will contribute to establishing solutions.
