CEC Program Underway

AdvantageWest, the organization providing economic development assistance to the 23 counties in Western North Carolina, has announced a series of “leadership meetings” that will bring together the counties who have met the requirements for Certified Entrepreneurial Community status.

Haywood and Transylvania were the first two counties in North Carolina to achieve the CEC designation and recently have been joined by Watauga County and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Applications from Burke, Mitchell and Polk counties are pending. more 

New Dollar General Opens Near Rosman

More than 50 early risers were on hand on Saturday, November 14 to help celebrate the grand opening of the newly-constructed Dollar General store on Old Rosman Highway between Brevard and Rosman.

Shortly after 8:00 am, the ribbon-cutting was completed by Rosman Mayor Brian Shelton, with assistance from Store Owner Roger Petit; Dollar General District Manager Earl Shelton; County Manager Artie Wilson; and County Director of Planning & Economic Development Mark Burrows.  more

Christmas Parade

December 5th at 3:00PM.  Kick the holidays off with a trip to Brevard to enjoy the Christmas Pararde.  When the parade ends you will want to hang around for the festivities of the "Twilight Tour."

"Christmas by the Campfire" is this year's Twilight Tour theme. Take a turn back in time to celebrate mountain traditions.  Each downtown block will have an open campfire with places to sit to warm up. You can participate in a more traditional activity like marshmallow roasting, story telling, ornament making, singing, or watching a children's Christmas movie. Kids can visit with Santa at "My Favorite Season."
